Fargo Street Hill Climb- March 14, 2010, 9:00 AM.

Hugh Houser covered this event back in 2003 on TV (pbs) Ken Chanab was sporting OTB colors and was shown climbing to the top. Check it out on utube. I did it about 10 years ago on my Cannondale Clunker. It liked to kill me, thought my heart was coming out of my chest at the top. Problem is there is no warm up, you just go when they say go. What really impressed me was the guys climbing it on a road bike.
I may go down sunday to watch (or maybe ride it again?)

The challenge is to climb it without stopping. We did it as part of a longer ride, so we climbed it twice, got our patch, and kept riding to downtown for coffee.

It's the steepest hill in LA 33% grade. Not sure if you've done Balcomb Canyon, a monster of a climb, and that is 15%-22% max. Black Canyon by Hans is 24% and it is nuts, so 33% is insane.

FRONT PAGE of the LA TIMES!!! Wow...that was amazing coverage. Big picture on the front of Times, and pretty extensive story along with another great picture. Good to see cycling getting on the front again (since Lance).

P.S. Can't imagine climbing that on a uni...unless I could get my hands on a 12 inch wheel...hmmmmmm. Grin
