Gooseberry Mesa area MTB trip
03/12/10 at 05:53:32

April 14-19  Some people may go for a shorter time.

Rides:

Gooseberry Mesa, Grafton Mesa, Thunder Mountain, Little Creek Mesa, JEM Trail, Slick rock swamp and or?

Hikes:

Angels landing and or the Narrows in Zion NP

Camping at Gooseberry Mesa.  Motels close by in Springdale or Hurricane for those that don't like to camp.

Darn, I'm in Vegas for a conference that week, and it's my wife's birthday on April 15. Cry

When I took my son to Zion we hiked at the exit to the Tunnel, I believe it is called Capital View or something like that, but it was spectacular views.  I highly recommend it, but of course Angels Landing is the most Epic.

I can't make it that weekend either. I have family coming in from out of town (out of country), so I've had to drop out of another trip happening that weekend as well.

I hiked the trail near the exit to the tunnel over the Christmas break. Pretty awesome trail. Not that tough of a hike, I hear people take their small kids on that trail.

Ya, Jake I took my 7 year old and he loved it!  It isn't tough, but very scenic and relaxing for a short hike after a nice long day of riding.

I would like to go, but can only do april 15-19.

I heard good things about Flying Monkey trail. Let's add it to the list.

15th - 19th is good with me.

I have been to the Flying Monkey and it is way gnarly!  I am not sure who you talked to that said it was good?  There may be two Flying Monkey Trails?  I saw a post one time I think on MTB'R and these guys were saying how good it is and had a video.  The video was not of the same trail we went down.  I will point you in the right direction if you want to try it.  It is a bit hard to find.

I am really hoping to go, but am unable to commit yet. I won't know if I can go until a week before. Sad

I want no part of "The Monkey". It's known as Josh Bender's playground. That's all I need to know. Way over my head.

I would love to just see a trail like Flying monkey in person and maybe ride it, is this trip going to be near that famous spot?

If we attempt to do Flying Monkey again we'll be covered on the Hiking idea.  Smiley

April 15-19 is fine with me too.

The section of the 'Monkey' I remember best is the haphazardly constructed wall line - uneven rocks (i.e., not flat) piled up making a wall about one foot wide, 8 foot drop on one side...200 foot drop on the other!

On the other hand, the drops at the bottom were pretty cool.

Unfortunately on that weekend I have family coming in from the other side of the planet. Yes, this planet, despite what others may have said.
